As 2026 marks the National Year of Reading, Paxton is proud to be one of the schools taking part in a national research project led by the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education, supported by the Education Endowment Foundation.
Mrs Nitch (Year 5 teacher) and a colleague attended Day 2 of the Power of Reading Research Project, which highlighted the vital role reading plays in helping children slow down, think deeply, and connect with others. Through storytelling, drama, and shared discussion, the project demonstrated how high-quality, representative texts can foster not only academic progress, but also wellbeing, confidence, and a lifelong love of reading.
Paxton’s involvement reflects the school’s ongoing commitment to reading for pleasure and its belief in the power of books to inspire joy, curiosity, and connection beyond the classroom.
