It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Paxton Academy Sports and Science, a primary school with a difference. We aim to use our independent school status to provide the most exciting, rigorous and flexible curriculum to respond to the diverse needs of our pupils and prepare them for success at university and beyond. Paxton Academy is committed to high aspirations, inspiring pupils and achieving academic excellence.
The school’s philosophy is based upon ‘more time for learning’ and to this end we will be operating a fully extended provision with a longer school day and year than is the norm to ensure your child receives a first class, well-rounded education. With this additional time for learning, your child will receive extra tuition in reading, writing, arithmetic and speaking and listening to ensure that they make maximum progress and achieve highly across the curriculum. With no homework (except for special projects) you will be able to focus on quality family time during the evenings!
Through our focus on sport, we will be taking a leading role in on-going research on the impact of physical exercise on children’s academic performance and all-round development in partnership with relevant universities and specialist teachers/ coaches. We aim to recruit accomplished sportsmen and women to staff this department. Our pupils will also benefit from our second specialism in science receiving a solid foundation in the triple sciences (biology, chemistry and physics) from Reception, taught by a science specialist on a weekly basis in collaboration with external partners.
To achieve our ambitions we must ask more of ourselves and our pupils and work closely with parents and the local community towards a joint vision for the Academy. This will entail working hard and doing whatever it takes to help local children to access the best secondary schools and universities.
I hope you enjoy reading more about our school and look forward to meeting you and your child in the coming months.
